1.  How long does it take to become a private pilot?
The required amount of flight time to get a private license is 40 hours.  However, most people will take a little longer than that to become a pilot.  Plane & Pilot magazine writes, "The national average, however, indicates that the typical student pilot tends to require more than 70 hours of training, regardless of the type of school, to earn a private-pilot license."  This is not true for everyone and many of our students learn with considerably less time, but, as with any type of training, the more you dedicate to it, the quicker it will go.

2.  What are the requirements to become a student pilot?
To be eligible for a Student Pilot Certificate, a person must:
(1) be at least 16 years of age, except for the operation of a glider or balloon, in which case the
applicant must be at least 14 years of age;
(2) be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language; and
(3) hold at least a current third-class medical certificate, except for a glider or balloon flight.

3.  Is there any guidance from the FAA on becoming a student pilot.
Yes.  The FAA provides a great deal of information on flight training on their website: www.faa.gov.  There is also a handbook in Adobe Acrobat format from the FAA on becoming a student pilot at: http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/aviation/media/faa-h-8083-27.pdf.

4.  Where may I take the FAA written exam for my pilots license?
Aviation Atlanta is a certified LaserGrade test facility.  You may take any of the FAA written examinations at our flight school.
